A Look Back at the Conference (July 20th to 22nd, 2026)

At the end of July, the Faculty of Protestant Theology hosted the international conference "Post-Mortem Existence" in honor of Prof. Loren T. Stuckenbruck PhD.

Scholars from various countries traveled to the event to discuss a research topic that has shaped Stuckenbruck’s scholarly work for decades: conceptions of the afterlife in ancient Judaism, early Christianity, and Islam. The presentations focused on inscriptions and funerary monuments, the Enoch literature, Jewish pseudepigrapha, and Pauline theology, as well as Christian apocrypha and late antique and medieval interpretations of the concept of existence after or "in" death.

The conference not only offered a diverse academic program but also paid tribute to Loren T. Stuckenbruck’s profound influence on international scholarship. Through the presentations, stimulating discussions, and personal encounters, it became clear how profoundly his work has shaped generations of scholars and fostered international scholarly networks.
